Our Beautiful Backyard!

The Greater Blue Mountains have been listed on the World Heritage register and was World Heritage listed in the year 2000, in recognition of its geographic and cultural significance. Spanning 247,000 hectares, the Blue Mountains National Park is an iconic wilderness made up of sandstone rock formations, waterfalls, rainforests and blue-hazed valleys. The Blue Mountains area is ten times older than the Grand Canyon

The blue haze that characterises the Mountains is due to an optical phenomenon called 'Rayleigh scattering' The Blue Mountains is densely populated by oil bearing Eucalyptus trees. The atmosphere is filled with finely dispersed droplets of oil, which, in combination with dust particles and water vapour, scatter short-wave length rays of light which are predominantly blue in colour.

Just 90 minutes from Sydney by car and two hours by train, The Blue Mountains has some of the most dramatic views, natural attractions and walks. Echo point where the Three Sisters sit, Wentworth Falls, Govetts Leap and the amazing Jenolan Caves are all within easy reach once you are here. The Jenolan Caves is one of the most extensive cave networks in Australia, they are a 75 minute drive from Wentworth Falls through the spectacular mountain ranges. The Blue Mountains National Park features more than 140km of trails and walking tracks. There are hundreds of lookouts throughout the Blue Mountains National Park, each providing a different perspective of this breathtaking natural wonder.

The Blue Mountains is home to more than one hundred species of eucalypts, hundreds of bird species, dozens of reptile and amphibian species as well as countless rare and ancient plants. The area has a rich Aboriginal and colonial past, and the National Park is part of the traditional country of Aboriginal people. Six Aboriginal language groups treasure connections with this land — Darug, Gundungurra, Dharawal, Darkinjung, Wanaruah and Wiradjuri.
