Falls Rest - Our Story

Hello! We're Kyle and Jason.

"I relocated to the Blue Mountains when the COVID-19 pandemic hit and I have since become a local to Blackheath for over four years. I grew up in a smaller town so after 10 years in Sydney, I was eager to be closer to nature and build better relationships with my community. Since moving to the mountains, I began working as a celebrant performing weddings and funerals in the upper mountains, and I recently started a local small business called Elope Blue Mountains. In my free time, I also conduct Reiki therapy sessions, volunteer at the Rhododendron Gardens and sing in the local choir. It brings a lot of joy running into people I know in the mountains and exploring all the amazing hikes in the area."

"I moved up to the Blue Mountains after wanting to explore the feeling of living life in peace and tranquility. Conveniently, Kyle and I felt confident in our relationship to take the next step forward and move in together. I work as a Registered Nurse specialising in cancer care. Throughout my nursing career, I've met wonderful patients who reside in the Blue Mountains and they could never stop commenting on the beauty of the community and area. I thought it was time for me to move on from my good old city life. I'm currently studying to become an academic researcher in cancer nursing exploring complementary modalities to improve patient health outcomes and minimise treatment toxicities. Through Kyle, I became a Reiki practitioner and I started building my own connection within the Blue Mountains community. That's also how I met Nicole and David!"

The Story of Fate

We met Nicole and David through Elope Blue Mountains when they provided The Glasshouse as a wedding venue for couples to get married. In December 2023, Nicole and David were thinking about moving to Tasmania to seek new life adventures. We were pleased to be invited to housesit and manage Falls Rest and the Glasshouse in their absence as they travelled to Tasmania back and forth to feel more into their decision of moving away.

Meanwhile, we had spent over nine months looking for a place to rent with no intention to buy. We attended every house inspection and real estate agents started reaching out to help find us our perfect dream house. We were once invited to attend a private house inspection in Wentworth Falls and was told if we liked the house, it was ours to rent. That house met all our criteria but even with the support from the agent, the plan still fell through.

Fast forward to one night in May 2024 when we housesat for Nicole and David again as they travelled one last time to Tasmania, we couldn't help but lay in bed, stare at the ceiling and appreciate the magnificence of this property. We thought to ourselves, this house ticked all our boxes and if we were to buy in the future, it would be for a house like this. The next day, Kyle taught a Reiki 1 course in the house and the first thing that every one said when they walked in was, "Is this your house? You should buy it!".

When Nicole and David came back from their trip, they announced that they were going to put this house on the market for sale the next day because they just bought a house down in Tasmania. Instinctively, we both said...

"We'll buy it!"

The Story of Love, Sweat and Tears - The Origin

"Hello and welcome, here is a snippet of a little bit about us, this is our story of how we became the owners of a gorgeous log home in the World Heritage Blue Mountains. It started with a kiss, no really it did, we met on the internet when internet dating was nice and easy and before it was all about swiping left and right! RSVP you rock! David was the one where my kiss landed and stayed, we blended our family of four children and the rest they say is history. We had been visiting the Blue Mountains for many years as a couple and in 2019 we bought a run down log home in Wentworth Falls which we slowly renovated making it our forever home. Our next step was building Falls Rest, a small romantic cosy cabin at the back of our log home. We were owner builders which means David and I built the cabin from the ground up, it took us nine months of working 7 days and we couldn't be happier with the results. If you follow our Instagram you can see where it all started and how we managed to build our little dream cabin in the mountains. We are both avid artists and are so lucky that we are now able to make the time to create. I'm a photographer & painter and David is an oil painter, you can see many of our works in Falls Rest. We love sharing Falls Rest with all of our fantastic guests, family and friends and look forward to hosting you if you are thinking of a stay with us."
